The Developer
Hi! I'm Toby, and I'm the sole full-time developer at Dead Hand Games. I'm 39 and currently live in the United States in Texas. I've been programming and drawing for games since I was a kid and at this point it seems unlikely that I'll ever be growing out of it.
The Studio
Dead Hand Games was founded in 2025 in the United States and focuses on games with a retro style but modern conventions and mechanics. I love the way games looked when I was a kid, and the games I make today reflect that, but I'm not interested in repeating the past. While my games may look retro, the experience is anything but.
For me, story is something that exists in the nooks and crannies of games. It's something you discover, like a treasured secret. I think telling a linear narrative full of dialog boxes and unskippable cutscenes is the opposite of the dynamic and immersive experience that games are best at as a medium. I love lore in games, and I think the best kind of story in any game is the one you tell yourself as you discover it.
